Last week I went to visit Alice Fox’s allotment. Alice’s allotment is the source of materials and the focus of her work, and it was good to go in winter and see the structures and shapes which lie under all the growth of spring and summer. It was a cold but dry day. We sat in the shed to eat a packed lunch and my eye was drawn to the sculptural lines of garden twine and rope. We discovered that we are both reading ‘Gathering Moss’ by Robin Wall Kimmerer.
