The Ilkley Fountain, a recently restored Victorian gravity-fed fountain in the centre of this iconic spa town, was officially opened by Alan Titchmarsh CBE in April 2025. Our design, selected by public competition, was inspired by the Sphagnum Moss found on Ilkley Moor and its connection with the moorland water which would run through the fountain.
We have now created a limited-edition sculptural fountain, Nest, which is an interpretation of the themes of the Ilkley Fountain design. Nest uses the original Sphagnum-inspired leaves from the Ilkley Fountain in a new configuration and in different scales, and has been made for gardens, patios, balconies and outdoor spaces.
Ilkley Fountain
I love it…Anybody who looks at this now with the sun on it, I defy them to say it isn’t anything other than amazingly beautiful.
This new fountain sculpture, which offers a contemplative evocation of the nature of moor-found sphagnum moss and its water-bearing properties, carries profound local significance.
Nest
Nest is a self-contained small fountain in galvanised and etched steel. It does not need an additional pool or body of water. The fountain is powered by solar energy (with booster which regulates the flow). The flow ratio has been set so that the amount of water splashing up through the leaves and into the bowl forms a pool of water as it trickles slowly back down through the central hole. This means there is the sound of water falling on water, and the sculpture also attracts birds. The organic forms of the fountain sculpture and the gentle tumbling of water over the leaves give a sense of quiet vitality.
An additional option is a second, larger bowl also in galvanised steel, for added height and drama. With this configuration, the water would spill over the edge of the smaller bowl into the larger bowl below.
Prices for the sculpture start at £1850, please contact us at julietgutch@gmail.com for more information or see the Portfolio page which has more about the evolution of the themes.
