I installed a mobile at Solace yesterday, a Leeds based charity which gives mental health and wellbeing support for refugees and asylum seekers in the Yorkshire and Humber region. Solace provides psychotherapy to the survivors of persecution and exile, many of whom have been traumatised by torture, rape, the death or disappearance of loved ones and often combinations of all of these and other atrocities. This commission has been supported by Diana and Robin Jakeways.
The mobile is made of a number of different woods with different characteristics, colours and origins.
With the composition I tried to give a sense of the gentle shapes of the letters which make up the word ‘Solace’.
