I went on one of a number of days organised by Moors for the Future and Friends of Ilkley Moor to plant Sphagnum plugs on Ilkley Moor as part of the restoration programme.

As the day went on, we had to tread more and more carefully around all the tiny plugs we had planted, so bright and green against the muted colours of the moor. I learned a lot, saw a lot of different kinds of sphagnum, and found it meditative as well as positive.

The quote in the final image is from an essay called ANCIENT GREEN Moss, Climate and Deep Time by Robin Wall Kimmerer. It has been very much part of the inspiration for our design for the Ilkley Fountain
